'Concepts & Core Values' Monthly Series

Post  Admin on Mon Sep 29, 2008 4:29 pm

How'd everyone enjoy the first series of 'Concepts & Core Values'??? Looking for full coverage feedback, constructive criticism, likes/dislikes or whatever else comes to mind. From the open mic, feature artist, lyrical breakdowns, music video clips, the mini sermonette. Let's chop it up and dissect it!

Hmmmm.... scratch

I loved it. As far as the open mic, I think we could have been a better audience for the performers. The only thing I would change about it, which may or may not fix anything, is to make it start earlier because we were really pressed for time. We cannot be still cleaning after the building closes and I think the sermonette would come across better if it weren't rushed. After that, I really look forward to the next one. Keep it up Lawrence.

It was awesome. Good music. Good atmosphere. Good message in the music. It actually impacted a non-Christian positively (i'll let Tim McJilton tell that story). I heard there were some tech issues but that's understandable for the first time.

I'm glad I left early because the running late would have really bothered me. We cannot ask some to break the rules of his job for us. The Building manager was required to kick us out at 11 PM. The fact that he didn't could have negatively impacted his employment. We should never ask someone to compromise his responsibilities like that for us.

When we do it again we really need to work on publicity on the front end. That is P&P responsibility. Through flyers and other stuff available to us on campus. I think we could apply for late night activities money and really boost up the food spread.

Concepts & Core Values Feedback

Post  Admin on Wed Oct 01, 2008 5:15 pm

I agree with you Mike, in regards to a variety of music. That particular day, there were a room full of rappers though that signed up for the open mic. There was a singer present but she was getting over a cold and unable to minister in song. That particular thing can't really be controlled; other people than just rappers have to be aware of the event. The feature for next month (Nov) is a singing group so I'm excited about that.

Brian, in regards to timing. Yea we're going to have to start earlier. So it'll be from 7-10 from now on. I felt bad that we went over the building time limit as well. I don't ever want to abuse grace; spiritually and naturally.

But thank you both for your comments this far, definitely had a great time. It'll be even better next month and Believin Stephen will be holding it down as our feature and Pastor Early Jackson from New Direction Christian Fellowship will be bringing the Word. This months theme (Oct) is Relativism; embracing truth in a culture of lies! Invite the world! lol cheers

November - Concepts & Core Values

Post  Admin on Thu Nov 13, 2008 3:45 pm

maybe i missed communicated. but i don't plan on going through all the slides and if i do, i don't plan to going through all in detail. i was just doing some research on grace and these are just scriptural references in case the topic sway's. though i doubt it will because the theme 'grace' is not really controversial like 'relativism' was. don't get it missed up with last month in how we did quotes to get people involved. this is just solid ground/prelimanary stuff used to desribe what grace is.

to generate the open forum/conversation portion, i plan on getting two secular songs and we'll be analyzing how they abuse and misrepresent grace. along with when rachel chooses the video clips, that will tact on the end of the convo.

lastly, i kinda agree yet disagree with having the open forum mixed in between with the open mic. only because for the open mic portion people plan on doing whatever they want to do, and because of that we can loose sight of what we're talking about. that's why i liked to throw it in the beginning then buckle down on the theme from then on with the feature artist/the lyrical analysis/the clips/the sermon.

chea,
Wink

The flyers will take a long time to print and will come out damp due to the color scheme.

More importantly, if the verses are not going to be used, then I think it looks tacky to skip over them during the discussions. I can see the value of having them up so everyone can see because everyone doesn't bring a Bible. However, I'd rather us have the verses in our heads and hearts than on the screen if they're for insurance purposes only. Let me know if I have a misunderstanding of what you're trying to get across.

i agree with the flyer...i'll make a simple white background with pics. or if anybody else is good with flyers lemme kno and i'll fall back lol.

in regards to the scriptures, i totally agree with having it in our hearts things and i also agree with having at least 3-4 of those slides to be used in the presentation based on 'Favor'. So let's go that route.

That's great. I like the idea of two different ones.

About the facebook event, it takes an admin to post the event on your group page. I don't have those privileges, so I can still make the event, but it won't be on your page as we planned. What do you want me to do?

DID Res Party

Post  threeinoneloveforall on Fri Jan 02, 2009 9:36 pm

Hey, hey!!! Welcome to 2009!!!

So far:
Sheila and I have done the menu.
Late Night/Weekend Request will be turned in on Monday (It includes food and Triangle advertisement fees).

To do:
If there is anything we need that requires money, please get the info to me along with supporting documents so that I can submit a request for Reserve Funding.
Rachel has been working on the letter that will go out to the alumni we have. My goal is to have this sent out on Monday...
DUST request for services needs to be completed. I believe this is Mike's forte. Can we have both hand held mics and mics on a stand??
POSTERs/Advertisement designs. Preferably we can start advertising ~two weeks prior. I'm going to look into getting a large A-frame poster from OCA to be posted in Creese and/or MacAlister. We will also use the Digest, computer screens, and fliers.
We need a band (or just some people who will provide "background" when necessary).
We need performers who are going to perform for sure. It would be awesome if we can get some artists who performed in previous months and also some who haven't like Selah and Chinell Collins.
WE NEED TO MEET: how does this Friday sound???

How 'bout a theme?

Post  Brian Musser on Tue Jan 06, 2009 2:45 pm

I know we were talking about life and death at the last meeting. The theme will be important on the posters and such. Suggestion to include something to do with the following quote
Martin Luther King Jr.

Something to Die For
I submit to you that if a man hasn't discovered something he
will die for, he isn't fit to live.
(from Speech in Detroit, June 23, 1963)

and to play on the resurrection theme.

Back to Life
"Tasted death and shrugged it off"

tonight's meeting

Post  Brian Musser on Fri Jan 09, 2009 7:54 pm

I won't be able to meet with you all tonight. I have an extended meeting with my church tonight into tomorrow.

These are some suggested topics/advertisements for the meeting.

1. Resurrection Party (obvious you didn't need that one)
2. Date for Concepts in Feb. Are we doing one in March?
3. InCounter - Mike has details
4. MLK Jr. service day at Chester - Mike was there last year
5. Church connections - Min. Butler and Mentoring, Victory, Pastor Blount etc.
6. Religious Student Organization Leaders Meeting with Chakka Thurs 1/22 at 7pm in Mac 2020
7. Next Year's Budget/Leadership (plenty of time but starting early)
